Los Angeles, CA – A new project partnership, one that enables countries around the world to better prepare for, respond to and recover from all types of natural or man-made disasters, was announced today by I.T. Crisis Services, Inc. (ITC) and World Vision.
ITC, a provider of global crisis management solutions, and World Vision, an international Christian relief and development organization, say they have formed a project partnership to develop and pilot a new World Vision Integrated Capacity Assessment (ICA) program. This program is designed to analyze countries – and organizations within those countries – by following a comprehensive methodology the ICA will identify national disaster management capabilities and provide expert guidance to help build resiliency and reduce identified exposure areas.
World Vision solicited the help of ITC (http://www.ITCrisis.com) as a partner in the development and piloting of the ICA program. ITC is a proven leader in global crisis management services with first hand experience in responding to more than 70 worldwide disasters, including the Pakistan earthquake, Hurricane Katrina, the Southeast Asia tsunami and 9/11 New York City.
“We partnered with the experts at I.T. Crisis Services because they have helped dozens of countries and hundreds of organizations successfully recover from a crisis,” said Mr. Brian Carlson, Humanitarian & Emergency Affairs, IT Director of World Vision International http://www.wvi.org. “They understand the intricacies of response and recovery, they understand the importance of preparedness and most significantly, they share our commitment to eradicating human suffering by assisting children and families in some of the poorest countries in the world.”
The ICA program analyzes more than 500 aspects of a country and its applicable organizations in the categories of Overall Profile, Infrastructure and Disaster Management & Emergency Response Capacity. Once evaluated, the country is then assigned numerical scores for components of its disaster preparedness, response and recovery programs, based on these specific aspects. Six pilot countries will be chosen to participate in the initial ICA program with the objective of building a standard disaster management and emergency preparedness protocol that can be effectively utilized on a collaborative basis by NGOs and humanitarian organizations throughout the world.
“Each country has its own unique set of specialized needs and challenges when working to help the disaster victims,” said Terri Lynn Pond, President and CEO of ITC. “The purpose of ICA is to assess a country’s vulnerabilities and to create a customized disaster management program that addresses many of those needs before a disaster strikes.”
